As people from Sarasota to Sacramento come together to take back their country, Outskirts Press announces the timely publication of Dr. B. Leland Baker’s Tea Party Revival, The Conscience of a Conservative Reborn. This essential guide to the growing grassroots movement favors neither a Republican nor a Democrat view, but offers an unbiased look into the demand for renewed constitutional compliance by the United States government.
The Tea Party Movement burst onto the national stage on September 12, 2009 when more than one million Americans marched under its banner from Freedom Plaza to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. This was the largest protest ever held in the nation’s capital and was also the largest demonstration by conservatives against the current administration.
Dr. Baker’s Tea Party Revival arms its readers with the information they need to cut through the obfuscation of current events and constitutional principles by the main stream media and by the government itself. In his concise and engaging book, Dr. Baker shines a clear light on the false promises, fiscal mismanagement and enraging habits of the federal government; and, more importantly, he lays out the steps necessary to salvage the original ideals of our country’s founding fathers.
A veteran with twenty-six years of service in the U. S. Army and now a university professor, Dr. Baker is well equipped to elucidate the cancerous growth of the federal government, the big government schemes that only fleece the taxpayer, and the so-called “expansion” of rights that in truth only leads to more layers of bureaucracy, higher costs, and lower efficiency.
WARNING: This book is not for the faint-hearted. It will infuriate socialists, progressives, and RINOs, while earning accolades from fiscal conservatives, who advocate the U.S. Constitution as a contract between the governed and governing. As the Tea Party movement continues to gain momentum, Tea Party Revival provides a level headed outline of how true constitutional compliance will lead to a smaller, more limited government, which will result in lower spending, lower taxes, and greater political and economic freedom for American citizens.
Dr. Baker, in these few words from his book, has captured the essence of many Americans’ current anger and dissatisfaction with their government; “Emotionally based arguments for more money do not erase the fact that the federal government has not earned the trust of the already overburdened taxpayer.”
Tea Party Revival offers a solution for regaining that trust.
This is a refreshing, easy to understand, accurate straight-on read. It goes into factual detail about wanting limited government, lower taxes, and several other major topics affecting all of us today.
It takes an in-depth look at the checks and balances in the U.S. Government. I appreciated that it also includes a copy of the United States Constitution in the back on the book.
Perhaps, it will give you a new understanding of the concerns that the Tea Party has.

Tea Party Revival: The Conscience of a Conservative Reborn explains the Tea Party Revolt Against Unconstrained Spending and Growth of the Federal Government. It consists of eight chapters as listed:
Chapter One – The Conscience Defined
Chapter Two – Perils of Absolute Power
Chapter Three – States’ Rights
Chapter Four – Individual Rights, Responsibilities, & Integrity
Chapter Five – Economics, Taxes, and Spending
Chapter Six – The Welfare State
Chapter Seven – Eschew Obfuscation
Chapter Eight – The Way Ahead
Dr. B Leland Baker states that the Tea Partiers are fiscal conservatives, who want a limited Federal government; because we understand that deficit spending and ever increasing debt is destroying our nation. So his argument revolves around (1) compliance with the United States Constitution; (2) which leads to a smaller, limited government; and in turn results in (3) lower spending, and (4) consequently lower taxes. This theme remains constant throughout the book.
One of the reasons I believe that this book is a tremendous read is that he does not “rant” against Democrat or Republican … he methodically outlines where leaders in BOTH parties have gone wrong and how many political “elites” no longer have the same values as their party members (e.g. We balance our check books, why doesn’t the Congress?)
Key areas in the book worth studying (versus reading) include his chart on page 20 that lists each of the Federal Departments not authorized by US Constitutional Amendment; yet our elected officials have spent $17 trillion on these programs since 1964. That analysis really opened my eyes, because if our legislators complied with the Constitution, we would have no federal debt today: major paradigm shift!
The second eye-popping chart is split upon pages 35 and 36 showing deficit spending since 1964. Talk about tax and spend politicians in BOTH parties! Dr Baker states that over-spending by elected officials has placed “our children and grandchildren in fiscal bondage for the next century. The Federal government created serfs without firing a shot.” Tough language, but how true! Why should we have benefits today and expect our kids and grandkids to pay off our debt?
Dr Baker developed other charts, but my favorite one is his analysis of Social Security, wherein the “average” wage earner could invest 15% of his/her paycheck and become a millionaire by age 65. Folks, this Ponzi scheme will make you mad! Our mandated payments to social security with interest reinvested would amount to $1.1 million – yet the Feds give us a paltry $18,000 per year in benefits (if invested properly social security payments should be at least $80,000 to $120,000 per year). I loved his chapter on “Eschew Obfuscation” – you’ll have to read it as parts are very ironic and at times funny.
What I found refreshing about this book is that is a factually based analysis rather than the typical emotional diatribe that many left or right talk show hosts use. Rather than using your “heart” to vote about key issues (like health care), this book arms your “brain” with ammunition to answer two questions: (1) Is the proposal or bill Constitutional? -and- (2) Can we afford it?
In summary, this is a professionally written and produced book that “blows the whistle” on the shenanigans of the Federal Government. Whether you consider yourself a liberal, conservative, or libertarian, it is definitely worth reading about our Tea Party grassroots movement. Dr Baker makes difficult concepts easy to understand.
