My Fishing Journal by Gary Lamit is a journal for children to track and record their fishing experiences. This journal is for those who want to detail their fishing trips and also save it for later in life to better recall these special times.

There are 50-pages of full color sheets that are divided into categories for writing down the time, date, moon phase, weather conditions, water conditions, fishing gear, types of fish caught, fishing companions, etc. The color 50-page version of the book is for younger children and has Wally the Walking Fish as its mascot on each page. The longer 100-page version is not colored but has more sheets for your older children for documenting fishing trips. More than 75 fish types have been described in information blocks at the end of each set of facing pages so that your child can learn about the fish they will be encountering during their trips.

Growing up in the Midwest, I personally have several great memories of going fishing with my Dad and Grandfather.  This is the most detailed journal I’ve run across!  It even has a Sample Journal Page, to help you write down a more detailed catch and keep those memories for years to come!

A young pig-tailed girl named Madison, a grumbling and very hungry yellow Labrador retriever named Cooper, and a walking fish called Wally, all prowl the area around their pond, dunes and forest in search of adventure in Gary Lamit’s enchanting “Wally the Walking Fish Meets Madison and Cooper.”

When Madison and Cooper catch a fish in a local pond, they can t believe their eyes when they meet a real walking fish! They’ve never heard of such a thing and they don t know quite what to think. But imagine their surprise when the fish begins to talk and introduces himself as Wally! Wally soon charms them and together the three go for a fun walk around the area. While the yellow Lab humorously growls about his supposedly always empty belly, Madison and Wally soon meet another friend: a beaver named Betty. As the group of friends continues on their journey, they soon pick up lots of interesting facts about beavers, fish, mushrooms and more.

Wally the Walking Fish: Meets Madison and Cooper is a beautifully illustrated adventure for smaller children. My youngest really latched onto this book! There is a short detail on many of the pages featuring the characters and the surrounding world  in the story; Cooper the Yellow Labrador to Mudskipper Fish. Each short blurb contains some facts relevant to the world around Wally, they are easy for the Kiddo’s to comprehend and remember.
