Jeff Alt convinced his wife (Beth), a woman raised with the belief that vacations include hot showers, beaches, and warm beds, to chuck her domesticated amenities and “Take a Hike” to help her overcome the loss of her brother.

Jeff had to spend quite a bit of time convincing Beth that the hike would be romantic, skillfully leaving out some minor details about the journey.

They walked the 218-mile John Muir Trail across California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range as a depression awareness campaign, carrying all their supplies on their backs and sleeping on the ground for weeks on end.

Several times along the way, Beth realized that she had been taken for “a ride” or rather “a hike.”

Jeff and Beth’s trail adventures, detailed in the award-winning A Hike For Mike, will entertain and inspire anyone through Jeff’s witty humor and inspirational stories.

A fine read for any California enthusiast of hiking or the Sierra Nevadas. A married couple lost a family member to suicide: their response was to trek the 218-mile John Muir Trail through the mountains as a campaign to spread the word that depression is a treatable ailment. The author walked the entire 2160 Appalachian Trail as well as the John Muir: his promotion of walking as a healing remedy involved his wife and fostered not only recovery and healing, but a newfound appreciation for the California mountains. An uplifting story results…” ~ California Book Watch

The author, Jeff, an experienced hiker, and his wife, Beth, walk the entire John Muir Trail across the Sierra Nevada (218 miles), that traverses the Sierra Nevada Mountain range from Yosemite Vally to the bottom of Mount Whitney to raise awareness of depression. They embark on their journey 10 months after Beth’s brother Mike commits suicide, which they feel was due to undiagnosed depression.

You will experience all of the challenges and beauty of this hike right along with them, as the couple sets out to raise awareness of this treatable condition.

Living close to the Sierra’s myself, I can only imagine how treacherous this hike can be. This book is an Inspiration in such a way that all will learn how to overcome adversity of the mountains and valleys of life, and find that peace within you.

Courage is the ability to move forward in difficult situations.

This Video will give you an idea of the lay of the land, and the hike that Jeff, and his wife, Beth mastered…
